Good afternoon,
Tonight I set here pondering when I was a kid in 1981. We lived back in what was called Fox Hollow Tennessee. My families farm was tucked back in a cove, nestled on a hill overlooking the entire hollow itself. Back then you played outside for entertainment. The morning started off getting out of bed at 6:30. Finding my incredible hulk pajamas, I rushed in front of our RCA box TV. There wasn't a remote so you set on the floor in front of it, in case you had to turn the volume nob. The Rocky and Bullwinkle show always came on really early. I can still hear Bullwinkle say, "Hey wanna see be pull a rabbit out a my hat?" Then out came a roaring lion lol. It was at 8am though that the magic began. ABC had Super friends with my favorite heroes. After flying off with them into deep space defeating the legion of doom, I heard mom yell for me to come get my breakfast. Eggs, bacon, homemade biscuits and gravy
. Topped off with a frosty glass of milk. Man! I can still taste her homemade biscuits. At 8:30 I changed the channel to CBS where the Trollkins of trolltown. With Pixlee and Blitz with their faithful dog Flooky. Oh and the gruff Mayor Lumpkin. Then there was the evil Troll choppers always up to no good. I remember the 8:30 hour was hard for me because I had to always switch weekends between the Smurfs and Trollkins it was a hard choice. At 9 it was the Bugs Bunny Road runner show followed by Spiderman and his amazing friends and black star, the Lone ranger Tarzan hour and thundarr . To fit in a bit of adventure At 12:30 was the ABC Weekend special then Fat Albert. Folks this was half a day of pure clean childhood fun and adventure./ Mix that up with all those feral and toy commercials in between and you had childhood heaven. When that was over I would go down the hill to our barn where all our animals were. Pigs, cows, dogs and puppies, even horses. I had so much fun just running wild and free, caring jot of anything except pretending to be a part of those very same cartoons. Folks our kids need this. They need to feel like kids again. These new cartoons have no content and no values. Our country is worse off trying to push education down our youths throats. Taking away their imaginations only allows depression, anxiety and fewar to replace it. I remember those warm sunny Saturday and Sundays just setting on the front porch watching my dogs play in the yard./ No internet, no iPads, no cell phones./ Then you could be creative, enjoy simple things, fireflies, a night sky, a rusty basketball hoop nailed to our barn wall. It was pure magic. Just to share a piece of that with you. Goodnight from the 80s room!
